About Our Driving School

Tanya has lived in and around Lexington since 2009. She is married to Jim for 31 years, a proud mom of three adult children, and a YaYa to three grandchildren.

As owner of APEX Driving School, Tanya combines her passion for social media, marketing, and community networking to connect with local families and future students.

She is dedicated to raising awareness about safe driving and making APEX a trusted, engaged presence in the community.

Jim has lived in and around Lexington since 2009. He is married to Tanya for 31 years, a proud dad of three adult children, and a papa to three grandchildren.

As APEX’s Lead Certified Instructor, Jim not only teaches students behind the wheel but also trains and mentors new instructors, ensuring the highest standards of safety and instruction.

His encouraging and energetic approach makes every lesson fun, confidence-building, and focused on developing safe, responsible drivers.

Sabrina, the oldest daughter of the owners, manages APEX Driving School’s office operations while also serving as a Certified Driving Instructor.

She is married and a proud mom to three boys, and she stays active as a baseball, football, and band mom.

Sabrina’s organization, energy, and hands-on approach ensure that both students and parents have a smooth, positive experience at APEX.

Zac Baker grew up in Lexington, KY, and brings a passion for teaching safe, confident driving to APEX Driving School. Married to his high school sweetheart for 13 years, Zac is a proud father of four children (ages 4–11) and a mini Aussie doodle named Birdie.

Zac believes that proper driver education helps create safer roads for everyone. His goal is to equip each student with the skills and confidence needed to become a responsible driver — because when he’s on the road with his family, he wants to be surrounded by safe, capable drivers too.

Outside of teaching, Zac enjoys cooking on his Blackstone, cheering on the Buffalo Bills, watching his kids’ swim and gymnastics practices, going for walks, and spending quality time with his family.

Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, I moved to Lexington to attend the University of Kentucky and quickly realized this city would become home. After completing my degree, I built a long career centered on training and public service, including 10 years as a Certified Driver Training Instructor with the state of Kentucky.

Throughout my career, I have been committed to equipping others with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to succeed. My wife, Dottie, and I share three adult children-Kelsey, Bethany, and Kris-as well as two beloved grand dogs, Barrett and Henry. I've always been drawn to work that makes a positive impact on the community.

Becoming a Certified Driving Instructor allows me to continue that mission by helping new drivers strengthen their skills, prioritize safety, and develop lasting confidence behind the wheel. In my spare time, you'll usually find me at a car show, watching UK sports with family and friends, or out on the golf course doing my best, even if the scorecard doesn't always reflect it.

Teresa grew up in Winchester, Kentucky and lives in the country with her fiancée, Chris. She is a proud mom of three and a grandmother, sharing her home with two dogs and a cat.

With 12 years of experience as a school bus driver, Teresa has a passion for working with teens and guiding them through important milestones. She enjoys partnering with students and parents to help build confident, safe, and responsible drivers.

In her free time, Teresa loves spending time outdoors, riding her motorcycle, and embracing her favorite season—October—where she works as a haunted house actor and brings Halloween to life.

Adrian Allen grew up in Lexington and brings strong community roots and a heart for mentorship to his role at APEX Driving School. He is married and the proud father of four children—three daughters and one son—as well as a grandfather to one granddaughter. Adrian also comes from a close-knit family with three brothers and one sister.

Adrian is passionate about helping new drivers develop strong, safe driving habits from the very beginning. He believes that instilling proper techniques and responsible decision-making skills not only benefits individual students but also contributes to a safer driving environment for the entire community. Watching students gain confidence and competence behind the wheel is what makes his work especially meaningful.

In his spare time, Adrian enjoys shooting pool, listening to music, playing HomeScapes, watching TV, and working on vehicle repairs. His hands-on mindset and steady approach make him a patient and encouraging instructor for drivers at every stage of learning.

Josh grew up in NJ, lived in Uganda for 10 years, and has lived in Wilmore, KY, since 2021. Josh is married to Kelly, has 4 kids, and a Golden Retriever named Zazu. Josh has always loved to drive and recently began teaching his teenage sons, which gave him the idea of working as a driving instructor. He wants everyone to enjoy driving, have confidence behind the wheel, and drive safely.

As an instructor, Josh is calm and enjoys helping students gain their confidence one step at a time. In his spare time, Josh enjoys spending time with his family, walking his dog, and going hiking and camping. A cup of coffee is also never far from Josh's reach.

Benji grew up in Frankfort, Kentucky, and brings local insight and a heart for helping others to his role as a Certified Driving Instructor. Married to his wife Jennifer for 25 years, Benji is a proud dad to Jake and Macie. Their home is also shared with Molly the dog and Lulu the cat.

Benji is passionate about equipping students with the confidence and skills to become safe, capable drivers. He finds it deeply rewarding to watch students grow behind the wheel and master a skill that will serve them for a lifetime. In his free time, Benji enjoys being outdoors—whether it's hiking, walking, or playing a little golf—and cherishes time spent with his family.

Sara Bowman-Connor grew up in Lexington and brings both creativity and care to her role as a Certified Driving Instructor at APEX Driving School. She is the proud mom of her 21-year-old son, Ty—an excellent driver who makes her especially proud. Their family also includes George, a hound/pit mix who is basically Ty’s sibling, along with three reptiles, each with a very big personality.

Sara is passionate about being a driving instructor because she understands how life-changing strong driving skills can be. She believes that building confidence, awareness, and responsible habits behind the wheel sets students up for long-term success. Helping new drivers feel capable and safe on the road is both meaningful and motivating for her.

In her spare time, Sara enjoys working with plants and experimenting with propagation—she has successfully rooted seven different kinds of cactus in water. She also loves creating unique art pieces using live and dried flowers, often transforming unexpected materials like old comic books and wooden boxes into something beautiful. Most of all, she treasures the time she spends with Ty and George.

Jordan oversees fleet safety and vehicle compliance to ensure each car is properly equipped and maintained.

Dawson assists with special projects and initiatives while working as a project estimator at the University of Kentucky.
